We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo...

A few weeks ago, Judith asked Joshua, "What do you want to do today?"

"Zoo."

So off they went, and a good time was had by all.

That afternoon, at home, he said, "Dada."

"Do you want to call Dada?"

"Yeh."

...

"Haloo"

"Hi Joshua. How are you?"

"Good"

"What did you do today?"

"Zoo."

"Really? What did you see there?"

"Munky"

"Monkies? What else?"

"Baboo"

"Baboons? What else?"

"Yiraffe"

"Giraffes. What else?"

"Efiphant"

"Elephant. What else?"

"Tiger"

"What else?"

"Wyon"

"Lions? What else?"

"Wokadile"

"Crockodiles? Wow. Did you have a good time?"

"Yeh. Bah-bye."

"Good bye, Joshua."

First Verbal Spontaneous Expression of Affection

A week ago our neighbor and her 4 year old daughter brought by a small plate of homemade cookies right before Joshua's bedtime. He wanted to try each one of them. Judith told him he could as long as he agreed to brush his teeth again afterwards. He complained. Judith said, "All you have to do is say, 'yes'." He said, "Yes," tasted each type of cookie and brushed his teeth. Afterwards, he climbed up on Judith's lap and squirmed and giggled gleefully. He wrapped his arms around her and said, "I wauve oo."

Will . . . or, rather, Won't

"I don't want it!"

Introductions

Joshua was at the park with Judith a couple of weeks ago. Judith was talking to a friend, and he walked up to a man on a bench (a father) and said "Haloo." The man started asking him questions, and Joshua nodded and said "Yeh" and "No." After a nice conversation, he ran over to Judith, grabbed her finger, and dragged her over to this man. He hugged her leg, and, while hugging her leg, turned to the man and said, "Mama."

"S" is now an uttered consonant

Today 12/26/05 "yeh" has become "yes."

Vocabulary

Here are some of Joshua's best words and phrases this month:

Vamosh
Let's go
Ayeee
There. Also 'here'; anything one can point at.
Hurriurriurriurry!
Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry!
Carne
Meat
Efiphant
Elephant
Yiraffe
Giraffe
Choochoostore
Rockridge Kids, a local children's store with a good display of Thomas Trains
Memon I Pok

Binky (pacifier)

Using two hands in coordination for tool use.

Joshua held his bowl with one hand and used the other for the spoon quite adeptly today. Ice cream is a strong motivator for gross motor challenges!

A Madeline y Pan

Judith and Joshua went to La Farine, the local excellent bakery this morning, because he wanted "pan". They ordered, and sat at the table looking out at the street-life.

After a bit, Joshua looked at the woman sitting across from him, pointed at her chocolate croissant, and said "That!" and looked to Judith for an answer. Judith didn't reply.

Then he leaned across the table, and asked the woman, "Wharueaing?"

Apparently she understood what he asked, because she answered, "A chocolatine and coffee. What are you eating?"

"A madeline y pan."

Rain

Joshua's looking out the window at the ground today, and says, "Wet."

"Yes, Joshua, the ground is wet."

"Hose."

"It's not from a hose; it's raining."

"Open."

Judith opens the window, and sticks his arm out. He brings it in and looks at it, and says, "Agua." Then he points up and says, "Sky."

"Yes, Joshua; that's rain."
